# Unable to verify BVN error

## A "BVN verification failed" or "Unable to verify BVN" error on Breeze usually means the BVN entered does not match the details on your salary account, the BVN is not linked to the phone number you're using, or there's a temporary issue with the BVN provider. This blocks access to Employee benefits products like Earned Wage Access (EWA), Salary Advance, Flexi Loan, and Maxi Loan, since BVN is mandatory for all of them.

### **Some causes include**

- BVN entered does not match the name/details on the salary account
- Phone number used is not the one linked to the BVN with the bank
- BVN was never added or has become unlinked on the employee's Breeze/HRMS profile,
- Temporary downtime on the BVN/account provider NIBSS causes validation to fail or hang regardless of correct details.

### **How to resolve this**

1. Confirm the phone number - BVN verification only works if you're using the phone number that is registered to your BVN with your bank. If you recently changed your SIM or bank-registered number, verification will fail even if the BVN digits are correct.
2. Re-check the BVN digits - Your BVN is an 11-digit number. Confirm there are no missing digits, extra spaces, or transposed numbers before resubmitting.
3. Confirm your name matches - The name on your salary account must match the name tied to your BVN at your bank. Mismatches (e.g. maiden name vs. married name) commonly cause failed verification: update your bank records or use the name your BVN is registered under.
4. Update BVN on your profile - Go to Profile → Verification on the Breeze app (or the relevant step in the USSD flow, (\*347\*519#) and re-enter your BVN. If the field shows blank or the previous entry was rejected, this means BVN is not currently linked to your profile.
5. Retry after a short wait - If your details are correct but validation is stuck or times out, this is often temporary downtime on the BVN/account provider. Wait a few minutes and retry rather than repeating submissions in quick succession.
6. Escalate if it persists - If you've confirmed steps 1–3 is correct and verification still fails after a retry, contact support with your employee ID, company name, BVN-linked phone number, and a screenshot of the error.

### **Error messages — what they mean**

| Error message | What it means and what to do |
| --- | --- |
| BVN is mandatory | Your BVN is not linked or has become unlinked. Go to Profile → Verification to re-link it. |
| Unable to verify BVN / BVN verification failed | The BVN entered doesn't match your salary account name, or the phone number used isn't BVN-registered. Recheck digits, name, and phone number, then retry. |
| Account name enquiry unsuccessful / Could not complete | Caused by downtime on the account/BVN provider (NIBSS), not an error on your part. Wait and retry; escalate to support if it continues. |
| Invalid account number | The salary account number linked to your profile doesn't match bank records. Confirm the account number with your bank before retrying. |
